When to ask for an assessment

The consultation is for women with a known heart condition and for those who need cardiovascular symptoms assessed during pregnancy. Care is planned around each woman’s medical history, in collaboration with her obstetrician.

• Heart disease and pregnancy: assessment before conception and check-ups during pregnancy.
• High blood pressure in pregnancy and check-ups after birth.
• Palpitations, breathlessness or fainting to discuss with a doctor.

How it works

During the consultation we go through your medical history, symptoms, treatments and previous tests. The cardiology assessment with ECG helps us decide whether further tests or follow-up appointments are needed.

When appropriate, an echocardiogram can be added: it does not use radiation. We agree on any tests based on your individual needs.

What to bring

Please bring previous cardiology reports, recent tests, a list of medicines with doses and any notes from your obstetrician. When booking, let us know how many weeks pregnant you are and the reason for the visit.

Follow-up

For women with a known heart condition, check-ups are planned according to clinical needs. After a pregnancy with blood pressure problems, care may include a cardiology review after birth.

Consultations are available in English, Italian or Spanish. You do not need a referral from your GP.
