Your first visit

How your first visit works

You do not need to know which test you need or have a referral from your GP. Just book and bring your medical records with you. During the consultation we will assess how best to proceed.

  1. Book

By phone or message. We suggest a date and let you know whether it would be useful to add an echocardiogram to the consultation.

  2. Bring your medical records

Recent tests, previous ECGs, reports and a list of the medicines you take. A photo of the medicine packaging is fine too.

  3. Consultation and report

Medical history, examination and electrocardiogram. At the end you receive a written report, with a clear explanation of the results and recommendations.

What to bring

  • An identity document and, if you have one, your Italian health card (tessera sanitaria)
  • Recent blood tests, especially cholesterol, blood sugar and kidney function
  • Previous cardiology reports: ECGs, echocardiograms, hospital discharge letters
  • A list of the medicines you take, with doses
  • Any referral or letter from your doctor

You do not need to fast or stop your medicines. It is best to wear comfortable clothes that are easy to remove for the electrocardiogram.

How long it takes

The first consultation with ECG takes about 30 minutes, allowing enough time to assess your concerns thoroughly. If an echocardiogram is added, a little more time is needed: we will let you know when you book.

What happens during the consultation

We discuss the reason for your visit, your symptoms, past illnesses and any conditions in your family. This is followed by a physical examination, blood pressure measurement and an electrocardiogram. All the details are on the Services page.

After the consultation

You receive the written report straight away. I explain what we found, whether further tests are needed and what advice to follow on lifestyle and treatment. If a follow-up is needed, we plan it together. The report can be shared with your GP.

Language

The consultation can take place in English, Italian or Spanish, as you prefer. Being able to describe a symptom precisely in your own language helps a great deal.

Payment

At the end of the consultation you receive a medical invoice. If you file a tax return in Italy, it can be claimed as a health expense when paid by card or bank transfer. For consultations at the Policlinico di Milano, agreements are in place with insurance companies and health funds: see the FAQ.

Book a cardiology consultation

You can call or send a message and we will get back to you to arrange a day and time. Consultations are available in English, Italian or Spanish.
